Hi Paddy, I understand the Nielsen methodology is largely based on recruited panels, so they would all be residents.
The other side of your point is that kiwis are also inveterate travellers so residents take to social media to keep in touch with family and friends who are overseas :-)
]]>Thanks for the article, as an online marketer currently living in New Zealand, I found it very interesting.
I do have a question on the data though. Do you know if it is taken from residents of New Zealand as opposed to “anyone in New Zealand”? Your last line says “New Zealanders” which is the only reference I could see to who the data may cover.
New Zealand obviously has a huge tourism industry and attracts a large amount of young backpackers / tourists who like to stay connected with home through the use of social media. New Zealand is also known for employing overseas travellers who stay for a few months at a time, again they will naturall use social to keep in touch with home.
Do you think this could be a reason for the high amount of social media usage?
Cheers.
Paddy
]]>Thanks for your insights Cheryl. I haven’t been to Christchurch for ages so would love to get down. I also hear that Wellington is thriving as a startup hub.
]]>Very interesting Sandi. Seeing the value in a time of need could well have catalysed uptake.
