I agree with your thoughts on the measures of influence currently available with social networks – and, as I mentioned in a recent blog post (https://andrewbschultz.com/social-shopping-follow-up-klout-and-influence/), it doesn’t seem like one metric (Klout is the specific service I mentioned) will give a true measure of a person’s ability to influence the actions a company is interested in.
